This hand-coloured 8 3/4" x 6 1/2" photochrome comes from the collection of Christopher Cardozo, an American art collector, curator, and more. It depicts Marsden Bay in South Shields, England, from around the turn of the 20th Century.
The photo was printed for the Detroit Publishing Company, an American photographic publishing firm best known for its large assortment of photochrom colour postcards, and can be dated to 1905, as the company changed its name that year from The Detroit Photochrom Company.
The actual image was photographed pre1906 as the bathhouse burned down in that year and the image is based on a licenced Auty Ltd photograph taken around 1900 or slightly earlier.
This is part of a set of two and they come in made to measure frames.
