Art From The Lens Gallery
The North East’s forgotten photographic trail blazer’s work comes home.
From the 30th October to the 4th November
9.30am – 7.00pm
Bottleworks
8 Riverside Walk
Byker
NE6 1LX
A rare collection of 5 original photographs by Lyddell Sawyer, born in North Shields, will be on show alongside works by his contemporary and fellow Linked Ring member, Frank
Meadow Sutcliffe of Whitby fame.
Two men who were part of a photographic movement that helped create the photographs we take today.
Another star of the exhibit will be a salt print by the grand fathers of modern portrait photography, Hill and Adamson of Edinburgh fame.
The exhibition will contain original photographs from the North East, Hollywood and across the world, all bound by a photographic thread that started in Edinburgh and blossomed in the North of England.
There will also be a collection of prints on show by contemporary photographers following in their foot prints today and work by a master modern printer of the traditional photographic processes.
A Halloween inspired window using magic lantern slides and photo ops will bring some images to life.
This is a collection of visual stories, from 1840’s onwards, that are moments in time that capture history and highlight why we need to start printing more photographs in a digital age.
Important note, we do not scan and reproduce these originals, you are buying the article we stock.
